Nantucket Day Trip with a Special Visit to Sankaty Lighthouse. Wednesday, May 15 (Rain date: Thursday, May 16)

Join us for a pre-season day trip to Nantucket led by one-time island resident and PPOCC member Eileen Powers. This trip will feature a special visit to Sankaty Head Lighthouse on the eastern end of the island in the picturesque seaside village of ’Sconset.

While in ’Sconset, PPOCC members will receive an exclusive private tour of Sankaty Light from lighthouse keeper and photojournalist Rob Benchley.

We'll also have the opportunity to climb to the top of this historic lighthouse (closed-toe shoes are required!) for photo opps.

There will be time to visit ’Sconset Village and its unique Bluff Walk with sweeping views of the Atlantic. The rest of the day will be spent exploring the cobblestoned streets of Town and its historic whaling-era architecture and wharf.

Some suggestions from our tour guide Eileen . . .

Here's the Nantucket trip description, sorry for the delay. I'm happy to lead this excursion, but I would suggest we take the fast ferry instead of the slow boat. We'll need to take a cab/uber/shuttlebus (cheapest) out to the Lighthouse and back. Nantucket is never cheap!

Discover the Beauty of Imperfection: Wabi-Sabi Presentation via ZOOM
The link will be emailed on the day before the meeting
PLEASE RSVP HERE
On Thursday, June 13th, 2024, at 6 PM via Zoom.

This program will explore the beauty in imperfect and unconventional subjects, emphasizing flowers with character, decaying leaves, and rust, creating abstract patterns. We’ll also delve into appreciating everyday beauty often overlooked, finding grace in “life after humans” as cars and equipment decay. Wabi-Sabi teaches us to see beauty in the old, the every day, and the imperfect, challenging traditional ideas of aesthetics. It extends beyond nature to urban exploration and even to embracing human imperfections, promoting a philosophy that celebrates the uniqueness of flaws and the transient nature of life.
