February 7th Business Meeting at 6pm "Stories from the History of Photography" with Marty Hassell at 7pm Our Feb. 7th meeting will be held at 6pm via Zoom starting with our annual business meeting. You'll hear updates from the officers, including the treasurer's report, and have the opportunity to discuss new business. At 7pm, we'll hear from retired New England School of Photography instructor Marty Hassell who will present her program "Stories from the History of Photography From Aristotle to Ansel Adams." Here's a description from our guest speaker: We now know that for around 40,000 years humans have been creating images providing evidence that they existed. At first, they created things like drawings in caves and, about 25,000 years later, petroglyphs. Later the demand for making pictures became so great that everyone wanted to do it. The problem was that everyone could not draw. Enter Aristotle in 325 B.C.E. and the rest is photo history. How did we get from Aristotle via Ansel Adams and others to an estimated 7.4 trillion photos taken in 2020? There are some interesting stories about that! In my 30+ years of teaching and researching the History of Photography, I’ve come up with a few favorites I’d like to share with you. – Marty Hassell

Steve Koppel - Speaker Artist and gallery owner Steve Koppel will be presenting on "Self Expression through Imagery" During this session, I will discuss imagery as a form of self-expression, both from the perspective of a passionate photographer and from the view of individuals who are self-proclaimed “non-artists.” I will share examples of my own imagery conveying feelings and experiences during specific moments on the beaches and tidal flats of Cape Cod. My talk will emphasize not only technique, but also the overall photographic experience. I specialize in creative approaches for expressing movement of water, and these will be explored extensively.
